Tragedy at Love Parade 2010

For those of you who might not know, Love Parade is a music festival, better yet, a celebration of electronic music, peaceful gathering, a dance party, that occurs every year in Germany and attracts over a million people.

Yesterday there’s been a tragedy at Love Parade where nineteen souls were lost and five hundred something were hurt because they were ran over and crushed at the tunnel entrance that leads to the outdoor event. It is a very tragic way to die. My heart and prayer goes to all these people and their loved ones.

But, I’m here to talk about an even more tragic event. One that was troubling and evoked rage within myself as it was displayed in my face: Reading comments from people about the Love Parade Tragedy on the Yahoo News site.

I just can’t believe how careless, immature and dumb the comments are. Here’s a few example below:

“They’re only German’s for god sake. It’s not as if somebody important died. Future Nazis. Nuke the whole country.”

“Sausage fest hahaha.”

“what do you expect, it is Germany after all and they like it rough.”

“I thought all good Nazis learned how to march. The Germans and the Japs should all be destroyed.”

And it goes on and on like this. Nazi slurs, homophobic slurs, just some of the meanest comments I have ever read about a tragedy where innocent people died. It’s like, all of the dumbest people gathered last night to comment on a subject. Just pure ignorance. And there are hundreds of comments like the ones above!

What is the Internet becoming? But more importantly, where is all that rage and hatred found on comment sections and blogs come from?

Seasons Wonder

I love every Canadian seasons. Cold and hot. But, there’s no doubt about it, summer is the best. I have always lived here in the national capital region where all 4 seasons are quite bold and different from one another. So I have no clue what it must be like living in an area, such as California for example, where it’s always summer weather all year long.

Yes it’s true, it can get a bit boring in November or feel a bit gloomy in January since there’s less light of day. Nonetheless, I wouldn’t trade my Canadian seasons for all the sunlight of Hawaii ;)

Finding an iPhone 4 alternative

I have been on the hunt for some time now, looking for a new smartphone that is as powerful and functional as the iPhone and not an iPhone! Let’s face it – it’s not as easy as it might seem. The one feature that is really important to me is accessing the web. Video camera would also be cool to have. I currently own the iPhone 3G; web is great but no video recording.

It seem that a Google Android phone would be the way to go. In particular, I like the Motorola Droid (called Milestone in Canada). But I’m a little scared. Abandoning my iPhone 3G just three weeks away from launch of the iPhone 4 (Canada: end of July) seems a bit suicidal. Starting a new 2 or 3 years contract with a non-Apple phone? Whouaah!

Now, I hear Android OS 2.2 is coming very soon, so that sounds interesting. I think I’ll hold on to my iPhone 3G until the end of the summer. Frankly, that antenna story with iPhone 4 kind of threw me off too. The way Apple handled the situation; I didn’t like it. Then again, according to reviews all over the web, in terms of feature, performance, ease of use and “everything else” the iPhone 4 is still the one to beat.

Modificationz

I have done further tweaking this morning to my site, mostly back-end tweaks and nothing that affects the site presentation. However, there is one significant change with the “Permalink Settings” which is now been modified to give a numeric value instead of the default setting. Huh? This basically mean this:

The direct link to the Capital Sound section is now www.bitburn.org/capitalsound instead of www.bitburn.org/?p=18

So if you used to link to one of the pages directly, you may want to update your bookmarks.

And Happy Canada Day everyone :)
