Tragedy at Love Parade 2010
Jul 25th
For those of you who might not know, Love Parade is a music festival, better yet, a celebration of electronic music, peaceful gathering, a dance party, that occurs every year in Germany and attracts over a million people.
Yesterday there’s been a tragedy at Love Parade where nineteen souls were lost and five hundred something were hurt because they were ran over and crushed at the tunnel entrance that leads to the outdoor event. It is a very tragic way to die. My heart and prayer goes to all these people and their loved ones.
But, I’m here to talk about an even more tragic event. One that was troubling and evoked rage within myself as it was displayed in my face: Reading comments from people about the Love Parade Tragedy on the Yahoo News site.
I just can’t believe how careless, immature and dumb the comments are. Here’s a few example below:
“They’re only German’s for god sake. It’s not as if somebody important died. Future Nazis. Nuke the whole country.”
“Sausage fest hahaha.”
“what do you expect, it is Germany after all and they like it rough.”
“I thought all good Nazis learned how to march. The Germans and the Japs should all be destroyed.”
And it goes on and on like this. Nazi slurs, homophobic slurs, just some of the meanest comments I have ever read about a tragedy where innocent people died. It’s like, all of the dumbest people gathered last night to comment on a subject. Just pure ignorance. And there are hundreds of comments like the ones above!
What is the Internet becoming? But more importantly, where is all that rage and hatred found on comment sections and blogs come from?
Change is inevitable
May 14th
I don’t think I’m much of an activist but I do support The Zeitgeist Movement and try to communicate what it’s all about to everyone, anyone. Here’s the newsletter I got this week which I want to share with you because I think it is very powerful…
On the Gulf Coast of the United States the shock is now setting in for millions of American citizens as we now realize the true extent of the damage caused by our desire for obsolete and dangerous fossil fuels, and our perpetuation of an outdated monetary world society, where the bottom line has always been profit at all costs, be it human or environmental. It is time for a viable solution to deal with a system hardwired for self destruction.
It is with that very unfortunate introduction that we, The Zeitgeist Movement, now must enter the international conversation to express the need for true change. That word is not some jingoist slogan devised by a focus group, but the evident desire of the public for a meaningful transition out of the destructive legacy, the burden of our past mistakes as a maturing civilization. We only have one Earth; there is no reset button here.
We must break out of our established ideologies that have prevented progress. Ending the political duality, economic stratification and false divisions is key to overcoming our apparent historical bondage that says the future we were promised must remain an elusive dream. We must now rethink our society and outgrow those parts of it that serve to paralyze us.
As of Friday, April 30th it was reported by CBS News (US) that the spill had spread to cover 2,100 square miles and was still spilling at a rate up to 5,000 barrels (210,000 gallons) a day. As of today, there has been no progress in stopping this catastrophe. This did not have to happen. It happened because we continue to use an obsolete technology for the sake of maintaining a profitable establishment. An establishment that perpetuates vast inequality in its wages to its employees versus its core owners, destroys fragile and vital eco-systems, and pollutes our air.
It is time for real change, not empty promises. No amount of socialism or free market ideology will save us from ourselves, there needs to be a fundamental re-write of what we think we know, to achieve a sustainable human enterprise.
Our generation has stood and watched as our planet has been raped and pillaged, yet we do nothing. Our generation has stood and watched as our government bailed out the very people who created this economic crisis, yet we do nothing. Our generation has stood and watched as our rights have been stripped away from us, and yet we do nothing. Our generation has stood and watched as we have been handed the problems of the countless generations before it, and we are preparing to do the same to the next generation, and
we do nothing.Let us be the first generation to hand solutions to our children and our children’s children. But we can’t do it alone. Let us break down the barriers we have created amongst ourselves. We need all of you, every last one, to say enough is enough in one voice. Not as Americans or Russians, Christians or Muslims, but as fathers, mothers, brothers and sisters. Let us destroy the lines between us and work to create a world where our children are truly safe and free. Let us create a world where we can tell our children that they can be and do whatever their heart desires, and know deep inside us we are telling them the truth. Let our generation be the one.
We have the tools, we have the knowledge, we have the technology. It is time we make the transition to a world, an economy, and a future we all deserve regardless of geographic location or economic disposition. As long as we rely on legacy systems defined in a 19th century mentality all we will do is spin our wheels while a parade of economic and ecologic disasters visits us again and again. It is time to pull the plug on this charade because as you will find out, there is a better way.
We, the Zeitgeist Movement representatives, reach out to you so that we can all work together to do what must be done. Every man, woman and child has a voice, but together we can create one voice so deafening that no one will have a choice but to listen. But it requires you. It requires you put away preconceived notions you have been told about “the way things are” as if it is the only way, because it’s not! Our way of thinking will no longer sustain us. We can either remain in the house of cards we have built and watch it collapse all around us, or we can, through the best our society has to offer, begin to construct a stable mature and thriving society so that the Gulf Coast Oil Spill, the Exxon Valdez and many others are nothing more then an embarrassing footnote in history.
BitBurn & the space monkeys from slushyland
Feb 27th
Everywhere else they’re getting tons of snow but here in the great national capital region we’re getting nothing but slushy snow and rain! I kind of don’t mind as it reminds me that spring is almost here :)
Oh and in case you wonder, the National Capital Region (NCR) is the official federal designation for the Canadian capital of Ottawa, Ontario, the neighboring city of Gatineau, Quebec, and the surrounding area. This also mean that a lot of people here, including myself, are working for the federal government which is why consumerism is very high because, well, people’s got dough! Sounds like the right employer right? Wrong. It ain’t. In general, working for the government is boring. The pay is good but it is just very boring. In fact, if working at an HMV music store would pay better I would rather work there!
The truth be told, there is a lot of waste in the government. My department alone is a huge waste of your tax dollars. It’s not that they’re a useless department – it’s the money spent on the “inside” that is just crazy. My director and her #1 monkey makes a combined $225,000 annually, alone. Then, the real party begins: consultants, consultants & more consultants! All for the greater good of…whatever the heck. Nothing gets accomplished; just a bunch of projects, policies and processes that ends up serving no one because by the time things get too big, too complex and just outta control the bureaucracy decides “let’s start over, clean slate, with a better approach, new people , a more elaborate plan”, thus once again things start on a positive note, the past is the past and all towards a brighter future we work for, we strive for!
Seriously that’s it. Just a continuous flow of bullshit. And around we go! But, things could be worse I guess.
Have a wonderful day my dear space monkeys :)
Oh Canada Movie
Jan 21st
My fellow Canadians, take a look at your favorite MP discussing the economic crisis, the Canadian dollar & see how in the name of god we got to be so oblivious if not near-moronic when we elect those retards to run our country.
By the way, the film is low budget, sure, but the film was basically done by a teenager with a cheap camera. The results are simply STUNNING. The film is a real eye-opener and contains the best footage I have ever seen about our idiots in Ottawa.
Security is bullshit
Dec 19th
Perhaps one of the biggest scam in the modern world today is Security. That word alone doesn’t mean a whole lot but when combined with other key words such as “job”, “family” and “nation” it brings out a totally different and powerful meaning. But when you think about it the word security is really only used to scare people, to intimidate you in thinking that security should always be taken very, very seriously…at all cost, at any cost. Security is power. And those in power, meaning our leaders, they looooove to use the word “security” and its synonyms.
You can make a career out there selling “security” and get rich too, like insurance companies, brokers and lawyers. Protect yourself, your parents said when you were just a teenager doing stupid stuff. In a way they were right, because in this bullshit society of kill-or-be-killed and where money leads the way it is always nice to have a backup plan, a bit of “security”, in case things go wrong with your life situation, such as a divorce or losing your job.
Either way you look at it, security sucks. Security divides us. Security frightens people and creates tension. Security is bad for the spirit of men. Security prevents us from growing. And the worse thing is that security doesn’t exist. It’s an illusion! It’s an idea, a concept, to make you feel better inside, make you feel “safe”. Governments & other grand leaders use it for speeches to calm the population and win their confidence. But it’s a trick. A silly trick to keep everyone under control while they unfold their master plans of…whatever they want.
Security is an illusion…and it is pure control.
