Seasons Wonder

I love every Canadian seasons. Cold and hot. But, there’s no doubt about it, summer is the best. I have always lived here in the national capital region where all 4 seasons are quite bold and different from one another. So I have no clue what it must be like living in an area, such as California for example, where it’s always summer weather all year long.

Yes it’s true, it can get a bit boring in November or feel a bit gloomy in January since there’s less light of day. Nonetheless, I wouldn’t trade my Canadian seasons for all the sunlight of Hawaii ;)

Modificationz

I have done further tweaking this morning to my site, mostly back-end tweaks and nothing that affects the site presentation. However, there is one significant change with the “Permalink Settings” which is now been modified to give a numeric value instead of the default setting. Huh? This basically mean this:

The direct link to the Capital Sound section is now www.bitburn.org/capitalsound instead of www.bitburn.org/?p=18

So if you used to link to one of the pages directly, you may want to update your bookmarks.

And Happy Canada Day everyone :)

Upgraded to WP 3.0

Mission accomplished. BitBurn.org v12.1 is now running on WordPress 3.0. It’s amazing the time it took to upgrade; like 9 seconds, literally. No need to do it through FTP anymore. Actually, there’s no need to access the site through FTP at all anymore! It’s that easy…too easy :( I’m actually thinking of building a new site from the ground up. Everything is just too automatic now with WP. Or maybe I should just shut up and enjoy the summer that is starting ;)

What’s new with me: Got a new car! Again, yes I know. I got a 2010 Volkswagen Golf 2.5L Sportline. On the music front, currently working on a new Blue Tonic World track. Oh and I just got back from the Montreal F1 race last weekend. It was, of course, totally awesome!

Charlie Loves BitBurn.org v12!

13 million people saw the following…so this is for the rest of you who haven’t seen it:

Google Analytics and WordPress

Okay so for the passed couple days I really began to get pissed of my hosting service, GoDaddy.com. My site was just crawling and crawling some more every time I was accessing it. I trimmed down on the plug-ins, performed a few PHP tricks, modified the php.ini file but nothing; whole site jammed in first gear…the site and the admin area (yeah, the admin area too).

Turns out I have found the problem: Google Analytics. Removed the script from my site, removed my Analytics account and 5 minutes later – WOW! Houston we have lift off! We are go!  Now I don’t know if it’s just a WP/Analytics problem but the two don’t seem to work well together. Either way, now I have to find another way to get some web stats.

If you are using WordPress and Google Analytics and have been successful with your site please let me know :)

Finding The Right Theme

Finding the perfect WordPress theme is like trying to find a needle in a haystack. I have been trying for the right theme for the past 5 hours, trying them, playing with settings, but am still unable to find something I like. And it is not just getting the right design that is hard but also one that loads fast. Maybe I should just build my own. Maybe I should just go to bed cuz I tired. Aah the current one isn’t bad too!

BitBurn & the space monkeys from slushyland

Everywhere else they’re getting tons of snow but here in the great national capital region we’re getting nothing but slushy snow and rain! I kind of don’t mind as it reminds me that spring is almost here :)

Oh and in case you wonder, the National Capital Region (NCR) is the official federal designation for the Canadian capital of Ottawa, Ontario, the neighboring city of Gatineau, Quebec, and the surrounding area. This also mean that a lot of people here, including myself, are working for the federal government which is why consumerism is very high because, well, people’s got dough! Sounds like the right employer right? Wrong. It ain’t. In general, working for the government is boring. The pay is good but it is just very boring. In fact, if working at an HMV music store would pay better I would rather work there!

The truth be told, there is a lot of waste in the government. My department alone is a huge waste of your tax dollars. It’s not that they’re a useless department – it’s the money spent on the “inside” that is just crazy. My director and her #1 monkey makes a combined $225,000 annually, alone. Then, the real party begins: consultants, consultants & more consultants! All for the greater good of…whatever the heck. Nothing gets accomplished; just a bunch of projects, policies and processes that ends up serving no one because by the time things get too big, too complex and just outta control the bureaucracy decides “let’s start over, clean slate, with a better approach, new people , a more elaborate plan”, thus once again things start on a positive note, the past is the past and all towards a brighter future we work for, we strive for!

Seriously that’s it. Just a continuous flow of bullshit. And around we go! But, things could be worse I guess.

Have a wonderful day my dear space monkeys :)
