Finding an iPhone 4 alternative
I have been on the hunt for some time now, looking for a new smartphone that is as powerful and functional as the iPhone and not an iPhone! Let’s face it – it’s not as easy as it might seem. The one feature that is really important to me is accessing the web. Video camera would also be cool to have. I currently own the iPhone 3G; web is great but no video recording.
It seem that a Google Android phone would be the way to go. In particular, I like the Motorola Droid (called Milestone in Canada). But I’m a little scared. Abandoning my iPhone 3G just three weeks away from launch of the iPhone 4 (Canada: end of July) seems a bit suicidal. Starting a new 2 or 3 years contract with a non-Apple phone? Whouaah!
Now, I hear Android OS 2.2 is coming very soon, so that sounds interesting. I think I’ll hold on to my iPhone 3G until the end of the summer. Frankly, that antenna story with iPhone 4 kind of threw me off too. The way Apple handled the situation; I didn’t like it. Then again, according to reviews all over the web, in terms of feature, performance, ease of use and “everything else” the iPhone 4 is still the one to beat.

Go for the new iPhone. Camera quality is sharp. Call quality improved.

Hello Dana,
Indeed, that is exactly what I’ll be doing at the end of July when the iPhone 4 is out here in Canada. There’s just no better alternative. Not here with Rogers anyways. Cheers!

If you guys are not bothered by a manufacturer which releases defective products good for you but I wont buy the iphone 4. I wont spend any dollar on this phone until Apple fixes it. If you buy something, you should expect to have it working out of the box – to say the least.

Hello Arno,
Yes, that antenna problem is mind boggling. I think what I will do is get the phone anyways and see for myself how bad this thing really is and if it’s something I can live with *easily* or not. That HTC Desire is seriously starting to grab my attention away from the iPhone.
